Digital Content Management

Digital books are textbooks available in a digital format.
Digital content is purchased at POS registers, and can then be downloaded by using the Basket ID and POS receipt number provided by your store and the digital provider service.
Digital books are usually cheaper than in-print books, and have enhanced features such as: the ability to search the text for words or phrases, add comments, create bookmarks, and print from the local computer.

The first step to offering digital content at your store is establishing an account with a digital provider.
If you do not already have an account, you will need to contact your preferred digital provider.
When you have signed up for that account, the provider and Nebraska Book will work together to set up your integration.

Once your store has established a digital provider account, you will need to add the digital content to Item Maintenance, add a 'Digital Content Instruction' record, and add the titles to the 'Digital Content' module.

When a digital book is sold, the POS system will connect to the digital provider server to obtain a Basket ID/Access Code.
That Basket ID/Access Code will be printed on the POS receipt ONLY IF the <b> notation is included on the instruction attached to the digital book.
(See 'Adding a Digital Content Instruction' section of this document).

A digital book can be refunded at POS. The original Basket ID/Access Code is required to refund a digital book.
When a digital book is refunded, the POS system will again connect to the Digital content server and verify that the digital book has not been downloaded.
POS will not allow a downloaded digital book to be returned. Individual store return policies may also affect whether or not a digital book can be refunded.

Issues to Consider

In addition to the above, several hardware, network, and software issues must be negotiated prior to selling Digital content.

  • The digital content process communicates to the digital provider Server via the POS server. Thus, port 443 must be securely opened outbound on the POS Server, using the TCP/IP protocol.
  • Receipts printed at POS must contain the receipt number.
  • WPServer on POS must be configured by PrismCore and POS Support representatives.
