Digital Content Setup & Workflow
- 1 Establish a digital provider account, and request an API key.

Establish a digital provider account, and request an API key.
Notify your digital partner & PrismRBS of your interest in integration and request an API key from the digital content provider.
Be sure port 443 is open, using TCP/IP, on the POS Server.
Once your digital provider account is configured, share your API key with PrismRBS to set up your integration. PrismRBS will need:

Priority of the digital provider, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd (depending on other digital content providers at your store)
Will you sell digital content in-store, online, or both?
Adopt digital content.
For CEI:
Use the CEI website to adopt the digital content that you wish to sell in your store. There are a couple of rules to keep in mind…
Any adoptions must have a valid ISBN number. You may need to use an ISBN generator for custom content.
Only items with a price > 0.00 will be offered for purchase by Prism applications. Please be sure that a price is set for content that you intend to sell immediately.
For VitalSource & RedShelf:
PrismCore
Application users must identify the digital content that they wish to sell with courses via PrismWeb Manager. Digital content may be enabled through searching by ISBN or batch of ISBNs, or one can use the adoption by Term method to take all ISBNs associated to a term and adopt digital books where print or digital ISBNs in the provider catalog match requested course materials.
Mosaic
Digital content will be discovered as part of a scheduled process that searches digital content catalog(s) for the print or digital ISBNs added to course requests. Mosaic users may also force a digital content search by product or course with the ‘Check for digital’ button.
All providers:
Follow the instructions in the section “Add products to your store management system for in-store sales” to create ISBNs/SKUs.
Confirm adopted digital products are available following digital catalog sync.
Titles, and prices that are available to sell as digital content may be seen via PrismWeb Manager > Textbooks > Digital Content > matched adoptions.
For CEI:
Digital content is adopted by was of the CEI website. A nightly sync will refresh CEI’s digital content in your store daily. The content is PrismWeb manager will include all products with valid ISBN(s) and prices > 0.00.
For VitalSource & RedShelf:
Digital catalogs are refreshed regularly based on scheduled PRBS processes. PrismWeb Manager will show all available content from the partner’s digital catalog.
Confirm your store management system is configured for digital content.
(Must be completed once. This may already be done if you have more than one digital content provider)
PrismCore:
(optionally) Create a Digital Content DCC with System Type set to Textbook.
(optionally) Create each digital partner as a vendor to identify titles for which you may be invoiced.
Add at least one Digital Content Instructions. (Core menu 109) These details will be printed on the PrismPOS receipt with each digital content sale. The value ‘<b>’ includes the url with redemption instructions. You may customize the receipt message to your preferences.
At a minimum, instructions might include “Visit <b> to redeem your digital content purchase.”
Mosaic:
(optionally) Create a Digital Content DCC with Type set to Book
(optionally) Create each digital partner as a vendor to identify titles for which you may be invoiced.
Enable the use of Digital Content and prices in Administrator > Store Setup > Parameters - Digital Content panel by way of the functionality toggle.
Assign the Digital Content DCC in Administrator > Store Setup > Parameters - Digital Content panel.
Select the Digital Receipt Info in Administrator > Store Setup > Parameters - Digital Content panel.
Optionally – Enable Auto-Adopt Digital Titles in Administrator > Store Setup > Parameters - Digital Content panel. (This option will always add digital options any time an ISBN the exists in the digital content catalog is added to a course request.)
Create product records in your store management system for in-store sales.
PrismCore:
Add any ISBN shown in PrismWeb Manager > Textbooks > Digital Content via Item Maintenance.
Assign the correct DCC and set the pricing as expected based on the digital content catalog.
Save work and note the new book SKU
(Recommended) To ensure that clerks only sell digital options, change the used price to $0.00 and/or disable the used book record.
Open the Digital Content menu (Core menu 108) and paste/enter the new book SKU.
Position your cursor outside of the SKU field, and Book details should appear.
Select a Digital Instruction from the drop down. (if none exist, check Core menu 109 for options)
Save the Digital Content record
Mosaic:
Add any ISBN shown in PrismWeb Manager > Textbooks > Digital Content via Product Maintenance > Add Book with the expected description.
Add a New Book profile with the correct DCC and expected digital price information.
Save book profile
After the Book Details are saved, select ‘Check For Update’ on the Digital card atop the Edit Book screen. Your digital price should appear upon update. (Alternately, Mosaic will check for digital prices via a scheduled process.)
Sell/Refund digital content in-store via PrismPOS.
(Recommended) Use PrismWeb Manager > Textbooks > Digital Content > matched adoptions to select ISBNs and print hang tags for in-store sales. Hang tags include the digital item description and a barcode to scan at the cash register.
Digital Content Sales:
Scan/Enter the digital ISBN number as any other product.
If prompted, select the ebook format.
Add additional products to the transaction as desired.
Complete the transaction and accept payment.
Upon transaction completion, PrismPOS will connect to each relevant digital provider and obtain a redemption code for supported digital content. A url that leads to redemption instructions will be printed on the POS receipt and/or included in emailed receipt contents.
Digital Content Refunds:
Lookup the digital sale transaction receipt.
Select the digital ISBN number.
Refund the product.
Upon refund request, PrismPOS will connect to the relevant digital provider and verify that the digital book is eligible for a refund. If allowed, the purchase amount will be credited and the redemption code disabled.
Refund payment or cancel the return request to complete the transaction.
Sell digital content online via PrismWeb.
Note: Although digital course materials are activated on order acceptance, full payment is not collected until web order processing in completed. Failed payments during web order processing will require manually action to deactivate digital purchases and avoid invoicing from the content provider.
Confirm that digital content plugin files are enabled for your PrismWeb website. (If you already sell other digital content online, files are in place. Otherwise, PrismRBS support staff can assist you.)
Within PrismCore or Mosaic, add a digital content ISBN(s) to a course request. (This may have been completed already to discover digital content.)
The Course materials API will present adopted digital content as part of the online Textbook search.
Users may add digital (ebook) options to their PrismWeb cart.
After a web order is completed, PrismWeb will connect to each relevant digital provider and obtain redemption code(s) for all digital content. A url leading to redemption instructions will be included with the web order confirmation and emailed to the shopper. Additionally, a separate, specific digital content redemption email will be sent to the shopper.
