Creating Product and Catalog Images

To create images for your products and catalogs, you will need to take photos of the products with a digital camera, or you may be able to obtain images of your products from your vendors.

Once you have photos of your products, you will most likely need to do some editing to them.  This can be accomplished using any kind of editing program, but Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements are recommended.

Some common edits you may want to make on your product images are:

  • Adjusting the lighting and color balance

  • Removing the background from the photo, so the product ‘floats’ on a pure white background

  • Crop the image to remove excess whitespace

After editing your product images, it is recommended that you save them in a high-quality JPG format.

Note:  GIF and PNG formats are also supported by PrismWeb for product images, but JPG is the best format for photos, so it is the recommended format for product and catalog images.
