PDA POS Line Buster
The POS Line Buster allows you to scan a customer’s purchases as the customer waits in the checkout line. A suspended transaction is created which will need to be retrieved at the cash register. A receipt will print at the printer attached to the PDA and the receipt should be given to the customer to take to the cashier. The cashier can then scan the barcode on the receipt or enter the receipt number to retrieve the suspended transaction. The transaction will proceed normally once it is retrieved at the cash register. The tender is entered at the register so there is no need to handle cash, checks or credit cards with the Line Buster.
POS Line Buster functions with PrismCore ICS and PrismCore POS.
Setup in WPAdmin for POS
Before the PDA application for POS Line Buster can be used, parameters must be set in WPAdmin for PrismCore POS. You will have to add a register for each PDA and, if you plan on printing receipts with the PDA, you will need to establish a receipt template for the PDA.
Note: If you do not print receipts, you will have to write down the receipt number of each transaction and give these numbers to the customers so that transactions can be retrieved at the cash register.
Create a Receipt Template for the PDA
We recommend creating the receipt template before adding registers to save a step when adding registers. While you can create more than one PDA POS Line Buster receipt template, the PDA will use only the first one created at each location.
Log into WPAdmin using your store’s WPAdmin login and password.
Click on the POS tab on the navigator.
Expand the Parameters folder and select Receipt Templates.
To create a new template for PDA Line Buster, click on the yellow plus or press <F4>ADD to add. The Add Receipt Template window will appear.
Enter the following information:
Receipt Type: Use the down arrow to select PDA POS Line Buster.
Template Name: This field is optional and free form. You can name the receipt template something more unique, if desired.
Printer: Use the ellipsis to select the correct type of printer for you PDA. If you are using the monarch HandiPrinter 6017, select that printer type. If you have a different printer for your PDA and do not see it listed as a type, call PrismCore Support.
Select Template to Copy: PDA POS Linebuster
Click OK. It may take several seconds to update the new template. When the Add Template window disappears, the template record will be displayed on the screen.
Set the Barcode Type to Code128. If Code128 is not selected, neither the barcode or receipt number will print.
The Insert Prompt and Remove Prompt buttons are not used with the PDA POS Line Buster receipt and can be ignored.
If you want a header or footer to print on the receipt, click on Header or Footer.
Receipt Header and Footer
Text
In the Text column, enter the text to display on the receipt. You may want to enter your store’s name, a note that this is a POS Line Buster Receipt, a line containing brief instructions to proceed to the cash register and give the cashier the receipt, etc. Though you can enter up to fifty characters per line, not all fifty characters will print with some fonts. In the Header Text sample below, four lines were entered. The lines do not automatically center. You will have to adjust the spacing if you want the lines to print as centered on the receipt.
Font
Select the font that you want to use for the text. With the Monarch HandiPrint 6017:
Standard Normal will print up to 50 characters.
Standard Bold will print up to 48 characters.
Large Normal will print up to 36 characters.
Reduced Normal will print up to 50 characters.
Reduced Bold will print up to 50 characters.
Large Rotate will print up to 36 rotated characters on one line and will wrap an additional 5 characters to the next line. Rotated characters print “sideways” with the top of the characters to the right, so that the characters appear stacked in a row.
Logo
Leave Logo set to none. Due to printer limitations, logos will not print.
Once information is entered, click on Save to update the header and/or footer information. It may take several seconds to update the header/footer information.
Detail Grid
You may change only a few fields in the Detail Grid.

Add a Register Line for a PDA
Each PDA to be used as a Line Buster must be entered as its own register. Each must have a unique register name. For example, if you have three PDA’s that will be used, you will need to add three registers with names such as PDA#1, PDA#2 and PDA#3.
Log into WPAdmin using your store’s WPAdmin login and password. Click on the POS tab on the navigator.
Expand the Parameters folder and select the Registers module.
Double click on the ellipsis on the bottom line of the detail grid.
The “Add Register” window will open.
Enter the Register Name and the Register Type.
Register Name: Enter the unique register name for the PDA, i.e., PDA#1.
Register Type: The register type must be set to “Hand Held.” The register type can be selected only when adding a register, not when editing a register. If you add the PDA with the wrong register type, you will need to delete it and begin again.
Click on Add.
Finish configuring the register by entering the following information.
Register Description: The register description is optional but recommended. Enter a unique description of the PDA/register.
Grouping: Enter “PDA” as the grouping.
Active: The Active button will default to checked. Leave it checked. It must be checked for the Line Buster to function.
Terminal ID: This field is not needed with the PDA and can be ignored.
The receipt type will appear in the grid. Use the ellipsis in the Receipt Template field to set the template for the type. More than one receipt template can be created for a single location, however, only the first template created will be used. When the required information is entered in the appropriate fields, click on Update.
Using the Line Buster

The screen will momentarily show the Login Configuration then display the POS systems for the location selected.
Select the POS system then click OK.
The screen will momentarily show the Login Configuration then display the registers for the POS system selected.
Select the PDA register that was established in WPAdmin for this PDA. If the PDA Register that you set up in WPAdmin does not display, return to WPAdmin and check for the PDA register. Call PrismCore Support if assistance is needed.
Note: If you do not touch Config to select the location, POS system and register, the Line Buster will use the defaults that were set in the previous Line Buster session.
Once the configuration is complete, touch POS Line Buster to begin.
The POS screen will appear on the PDA. At the top center of the screen, the receipt number will be displayed. At the bottom, the XREF field will show. As items are added to the transaction, the running total will appear above the XREF field.
There are four buttons at the bottom of the screen: Print, Clear, Close and Enter. When all items are entered on the screen, use these buttons to finish the transaction.
Scan the first item’s XREF. The item’s XREF or SKU can also be entered manually using the keyboard (kb) or Graffiti. If you enter the item ID manually, you will need to touch Enter after having typed the ID.
If the item id is not recognized, the message 501 NO DATA FOUND will display. Touch OK and try the item again.
When a valid XREF has been entered, it will appear on the screen along with a default quantity of 1 and the price from Item/Inventory Maintenance.
Three buttons appear above the XREF field near the bottom of the screen. To the left of these buttons the total of the transaction (without tax) will display.
Lookup - Touch Lookup to see details of the item that is highlighted on the screen. See the section on “Lookup” for detail information.
Delete - Touch Delete to remove the highlighted item from the transaction. The prompt “Are you sure you want to delete this item?” will appear. Touch Yes to delete the item. Touch No to not delete the item.
Edit - Touch Edit if you need to change the quantity or price.
Change the quantity or price using the PDA
Highlight the item that needs to be edited and then touch Edit.
The item’s description will appear on the screen. Enter the new quantity using the keyboard or Graffiti and then click OK. If necessary, enter a new price.
Note: The PDA will not accept an item with a zero price. Do not change the price to zero. In version 1.3.0.2, a zero price will corrupt the record and the PDA will not recognize it. Even though it still may be displayed on the screen, the total will not be included on the printed receipt. An item with a zero price will have to be deleted from the transaction and re-added before the PDA will recognize it.
Scan or enter the XREF/SKU of the next item.
As items are added to the transaction, the transaction total will appear just above the XREF field.
When all items are entered on the screen, use the buttons at the bottom of the screen to finish the transaction. Use Print to print the receipt and then Close to send the transaction to the cash register.
Warning: Clear will clear the entire transaction and no data will be saved or sent to the cash register.
Print - If you want a receipt of the transaction and you have a printer attached to the PDA, touch Print. Below is a sample of what a receipt may look like (without a barcode). Header and footer information were entered for this receipt template.
The receipt should be given to the customer to take to the register. If you are not printing receipts, you must work out a procedure to give the receipt number to the customer so that it can be presented to the cashier at the cash register.
Printing a receipt does not close the transaction. You must close the transaction after the receipt is printed. It is possible to print a receipt for a transaction and then add more items to the transaction. Therefore, make sure all items are entered before printing the final receipt and closing the transaction.
The SKU of each item will print on the PDA receipt, even if the Bookland or UPC was scanned.
Clear - To clear the entire transaction without sending it to the cash register as a suspended transaction, touch Clear. “Delete Current Data?” will appear. To delete the transaction and not send it to the cash register, touch Yes. To not delete the transaction, touch No.
Close - Touch Close when you are ready to send the information to the cash register as a suspended transaction. The list of items on the screen will clear and you can begin scanning items for the next customer. Close is the last thing you do on the PDA with a transaction. If you want to print a receipt for a transaction, you must print it before the transaction is closed. You cannot retrieve or print a closed PDA transaction.
The customer should proceed to the cash register and present the receipt to the cashier. The cashier will use the commands to retrieve a suspended transaction and either scan the barcode on the receipt or enter the receipt number to be retrieved. Once the transaction is retrieved, the transaction will proceed as normal.
