PDA – Loading the software

The PDA cradle first needs to be connected to a serial port on a PC. Reboot the PC after the cradle is hooked securely to the serial port, to be certain the PC will recognize the new hardware.

Two software programs then need to be downloaded to the PC. The Palm Desktop is the first piece of software that is needed. It can be downloaded from the Palm Pilot website. Second, you need to download the PDA software from the PRISM ICS Support website WP_PR_PDA_Install.

Before loading the PDA software onto the PDA, place the PDA in the cradle. At the PDA main menu tap the Hot Sync icon. In the upper right-hand corner of the next screen, record the PDA number. We will use this later to distinguish this individual PDA. You can return the PDA main menu and leave it in the cradle.

On the PC, open the Palm Desktop software. Type the PDA number in the User field in the upper right-hand corner of the screen then click the Quick Install button on the bottom left of the screen. A second window will open. Click the Add button in the lower left- hand corner. Locate the PDA software files that were downloaded from the PRISM ICS Support website, highlight the files, and then click Open.

At this point, press the hot sync button on the right side of the PDA cradle. The PDA software will begin to load onto the PDA.

Note: As daily maintenance, Support recommends placing the PDA in the cradle at the end of each day, and pressing the host sync button on the PDA cradle.
