Symbol PDA – Loading NBCPRISM Application Suites

Step 1: The PDA cradle first needs to be connected to a serial port on a PC workstation. Reboot the PC workstation after the cradle is hooked securely to the serial port, to be certain the Windows operating system will recognize the new hardware. Note what Com port you are using.
Step 2: PalmOne Desktop software program needs to be loaded to the PC workstation. The Palm Desktop can be downloaded for free from the CBMS Support website from Other Downloads.

  1. Click on above web link and follow screen instructions to load the palmOne desktop program to your Windows PC workstation.



  1. Chose the Downloads link to the Palm Desktop Program and click on Palm Desktop Program.



  1. Click Save.

  1. A File Download dialog box will open. Choose where to save your file.

  1. After file downloads Click the Open button.



  1. The folder where you save the file will open. Highlight the file name PalmDesktop41ENG.exe and Double Click

  1. Follow screen prompts in the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard screens.


Step 3: Download the correct suite of NBCPRISM PDA application software from the PrismCore Support websites (Downloads), to open the download page. These files are password protected on the website. Please call CBMS Support 800510-3911 for the current passwords. If need to purchase the application suites, please call system sales at 800-869-0366.
Please note your PDA will be shipped to your store pre-loaded with NBCPRISM PDA application suite (s) purchased.
Step 4: Find the PDA's assigned name and number. The name will be something similar to AIXHH1 or WINHH1.

  1. At the PDA main menu screen tap with the stylus the Hot Sync icon.

  2. In the upper right-hand corner of the next screen, record the PDA assigned name and number. In the example below the name and number assigned is "Palm OS Emulator". We will use this later to distinguish this individual PDA.

  3. You can return the PDA main menu and leave it in the cradle.


Step 5: Load the NBCPRISM PDA application suite (s) software.

  1. On the PC workstation, open the palmOne Desktop software.

  1. Type the PDA assigned name and number in the User: field in the upper right- hand corner of the screen.



  1. Click the Quick Install button on the bottom left of the screen.A second "Quick Install" window will open.



  1. Make sure the PDA name and number is entered in the User: field in the upper right hand corner of the quick install window.

  1. Click the Add button in the lower left-hand corner. Find the PDA software files that were downloaded from the ICS Support website, highlight the files.

  2. Click Open.

  1. The open window will disappear and the Quick Install window will appear with the selected files ready to be installed in to the Symbol PDA.

  1. Press the HotSync button on the right side of the PDA cradle. The PDA software will begin to load onto the PDA.

  1. After the HotSync completes the PDA will display HotSync operation complete.

  2. Use the stylus to tap the home icon (looks like a house) to go to the main screen.

  3. You should now see on your Symbol PDA the NBCPRISM applications.

  4. Complete, you're done.




Note:As daily maintenance, Support recommends placing the PDA in the cradle at the end of each day, and pressing the host sync button on the PDA cradle. This will synchronize the PDA and the desktop. You may use the PDA as your main appointment calendar and address manager. Hot sync will protect your data on the PDA as well as any information stored in the palmOne desktop.
Note:Keep your Symbol PDA batteries charged. If the Symbol PDA losses all battery power the NBCPRISM Application software will be lost, and will have to be reloaded.
