The PDA accesses only one application at a time. The operating system does not function like Windows in which you can have multiple sessions open at the same time. With the PDA you must exit one application to access another.

When you login to one application, you remain logged in until you either clear your login information or you login to another application.

For PrismCore, you can use your regular login and password or your store may have a specific login established for use with the PDA.

Logging Into an Application

To access an application, touch the application’s icon with the stylus. For example, to access Lookup, touch the Lookup icon.

If you already in another application and you wish to return to the PDA’s main screen to select another application, touch Home/Applications in the lower portion of the screen.  (Note: In the documentation, this icon appears as an arrow in a
circle. On your PDA, it may appear as a house icon next to the Graffiti area.)

When you access an application the configuration screen will appear, if you are not already logged in.

To configure a login for an application enter the appropriate information and then touch OK. To enter information, use the keyboard kb or Graffiti. If you wish to exit the Login Configuration screen without saving the date, touch Cancel.

The following is a description of what should be entered in each field.

Host:

Enter the IP address of the machine running WPServer.

Port:

Enter the ID of the port that has been configured for your PDA. For PrismCore the default port is 2000.

Login:

Enter the login for the PDA. You may use your regular PrismCore login or you may use a login that has been created specifically for use with the PDA.

Password:

Enter the password that is associated with the login.

Retain Password:

If you wish your password to remain in the Password field until it is manually removed, check the “Retain Password” box. If “Retain Password” is checked, your password will be viewable at the Configure screen and usable by anyone in possession of the PDA. If you want your password to be cleared when the configuration screen is accessed, leave “Retain Password” unchecked. This will mean that the next person to use the application must enter an appropriate login and password.

Important: Even when logged in with “Retain Password” unchecked, anyone who has possession of the PDA can use it as configured until the “Configure” screen is accessed again. Therefore, when ending your use with the PDA, it is a good idea to return to the configure screen to clear your login and password information so that the next person to use the PDA must enter his/her own login information. To quickly access the login configure screen from any application, touch Home  in the upper right corner and then Configure.

Batch Mode:

Some of the PDA applications such as Inventory and Receiving will also have a “Batch Mode” checkbox. If “Batch Mode” is checked, communication between the PDA and ICS is not instantaneous. When you are in batch mode, communication from the PDA to ICS occurs only when you tell the PDA to transmit. Refer to the appropriate sections on those applications for more detailed information.

Note :  Once logged in to the PDA, your login will stay active in that application until it is changed or cleared.

If you want the entries for the host, port, user and password to be entered and set for all NBC applications, touch Set All. If you want the settings to be applied only to the application that you are accessing, do not touch Set All.

Once you have entered the appropriate login information, touch OK.

When you touch OK, the selections for the application will be displayed and your login will appear at the bottom of the screen.

If you need to change the login, touch Configure to return to the Login Configuration screen.  If you are ready to access the application, touch the application box.

If the messages Error: Unknown Code or Invalid password or username appear when you attempt to access an application, you have either entered the host or port information incorrectly or have entered an incorrect login or password. Touch Configure to correct the information.

Exiting an Application

To exit  an application and return to the screen where you can select another application, touch Home/Applications in the Graffiti portion of the screen.   Remember that Home/Applications on the PDA may appear as a house in a circle.

While in an application, touch Home in the upper right corner at any time to access the selection screen for that application.

Hint: If you are done working with the PDA, it’s a good idea to return to the configuration  screen  of  an application  that  you  have used  and  make  sure that your password has been cleared.   This will ensure that the applications on the PDA cannot be accessed by unauthorized personnel.
