Downloading VisualRatexHelp

When you download the zip file, you may receive a security warning when you try to open the VRHelp.chm file. If you receive this warning, you must UNCHECK the Always Ask Before Opening This File checkbox.

Note:  Leaving the checkbox checked will not display the Help correctly.

If the above solution doesn't work, right-click the VRHelp.chm file and select Properties. under General tab, is there an Unblock button? If there is, select Unblock and try to view VisualRATEXHelp again.

Viewing VRHelp on a Network Drive

Microsoft recently released a security patch that makes it impossible to view .CHM files that are stored on a network drive (as opposed to .CHM files stored on your own computer). The help file will appear, but instead of the topic text you will see an error message "this page cannot be displayed".

VisualRATEX Help Instructions

These instructions will “help” you get started using the VisualRATEX Help (VRHelp) application! If you have further questions that this document does not address, please contact PrismRBS support.

In order to use VRHelp, follow these instructions:

Unzip the zipped VRHelp folder and place the folder where you normally use your VR executable. The folder must be in the same place as your executable in order for the Help to work in VisualRATEX.

VRHelp.chm is the name of the compiled Help file. You can double-click this file any time to read the Help on its own, outside of VisualRATEX.

To use the Help in VisualRATEX, press F1 while in any screen, and Help for that particular screen will appear (Example: try Textbook Maintenance, TxBookMnt). You can also access the Help by pressing Help > VisualRATEX Help from the main menu bar and navigating to the Help section of your choice.

Important! By default, the Help system will not work if you try to view it on a network drive. You must open it on your local drive (C:\) for the Help to work properly. If you trust all the computers on your LAN or intranet (and the people using them), you can lower the restrictions on the Local Intranet zone to allow .CHM files to be displayed with the following steps:

  1. Select Click Start, select click Run, type regedit, and then select click OK.
  2. Locate and then select click the following subkey: HKEYHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x\ItssRestrictions
  3. If this registry subkey does not exist, create it.
  4. Right-click the ItssRestrictions subkey, point to New, and then select click DWORD Value.
  5. Type MaxAllowedZone, and then press Enter.
  6. Right-click the MaxAllowedZone value, and then select click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then select click OK.
  8. Quit Registry Editor.

Please note, the Help system is not 100% complete for every module – we are working hard to make the documentation as efficient and as helpful as possible for you.



If you still have an issue... and your computer is on Windows 10....

Windows might be blocking the content of the help file from loading due to it being flagged as a remotely downloaded file. This is a safety precaution that Windows applies to some file types downloaded from the internet.

Per the screenshot below, can you right click on the help file, select Properties, and if present check the Unblock checkbox and Apply the changes. After this is completed you should be able to re-open the help document and view the content as expected.
