Loading PDTLOAD on PDT

Step 1: Download the PDTLOAD program from the PrismRBS support website on the Other Downloads page:
The program is a ZIP file.

  1. Click Save


  1. Select a file location on your PC workstation and click save. Note the location of your file save!


  1. Download will process when download is complete Click Open Folder.


  1. When the folder opens find the file named loadpdt1.zip and then move you mouse over the file name and click the left mouse button once. Find the command Extract All and double click the word Extract all.


  1. Windows XP will open the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard Extraction


  1. Click the Next button. You will see a select destination window appear. Click on make new folder. Create a folder called PDTLOAD. Highlight this folder name and click OK.


  1. The Extraction Wizard will extract the ZIP file. Click Finish.


  1. Windows will display the files in window. Remember to NOTE the location of your file save will need this in the next step.


  1. You may click the X in the upper right hand corner and close this window


Step 2: Start the PDTLOAD version 2.06 program on your PC workstation.

  1. Click on your START menu
  2. Click on RUN


  1. Click on the Browse button and locate the file location of the PDTLOAD program files. Highlight the correct LOADPDT#.bat file name and click once, then press Open. Remember that LOADPDT1.BAT is correct if you have the cable from the cradle plugged into com port 1. LOADPDT2.BAT is correct if you cable cradle plugged into com port 2.


  1. The run window will appear again with the path to the LOADPDT#.bat program. Click OK


  1. If an Open File – Security Warning window appears click Run.


  1. A DOS window will appear and the LOADPDT will be running in the DOS window. We will now just let it stay open until we get the PDT ready to accept the program. Note: if the dos window appears and immediately disappears then you have the wrong com port selected.


Step 3: Connect the PDT cradle to a power outlet. The power cord should be inserted into the cradle in the port marked 15 VDC. Find the custom Symbol serial cable that came with the cradle. Connect the 9 pin connector to the serial com port on your PC workstation. Note what com port you are connected to. Connect the 25 pin end of the Symbol cable to the cradle in the port marked RS-232.
Match your com port to the PDTLOAD program. (pdtload1 = com1) (pdtload2 = com2)
Step 4: Place the Symbol PDT in the cradle.
Step 5: Power on the Symbol PDT.

  1. A Symbol Corporate demo screen will appear
  2. Boot the PDT into Command mode (See Appendix 1 for keys to press)
  3. The follow will appear on the screen of the PDT: COMMAND MODE

SELECT FUNCTION SELF TEST

  1. Press the down arrow key once. The program loader function will appear. COMMAND MODE

  1. Press enter on the PDT. A warning will appear press enter to erase the EEPROM.

  1. Wait while the PDT erases the Symbol Corporate demo program. You will see the following on the PDT screen.

  1. Press enter to set Comm Parameters at 9600 baud.

  1. Press enter to set Comm Parameters data bits to 7.

  1. Press enter to set Comm Parameters parity to odd.

  1. Press enter to set Comm Parameters flow control to none.

  1. You will now see on the PDT screen the following. Do not press start yet, Make sure that the DOS window is open and is ready to run.



  1. Press enter on the PDT FIRST THEN IMEDATELY PRESS THE ENTER KEY ON YOUR PC WORKSTATION. The program will start to be downloaded to the PDT and will count off the percentage till it is done. On the PC workstation when the file transfer to the PDT is done you will hear a tone and the DOS Window will close. On the PDT SCREEN you should see:

And it will list the files as the PDT receives the files from the PC workstation. When done the PDT Screen will display:

Status 0000
Status 0000 means the program is loaded correctly. Any other number represents an error and the process should be restarted.

  1. You now have to COLD BOOT the PDT. See Appendix 2 below for Keys to press to Cold Boot a PDT.
  2. The PDT is now ready for use.

  1. Press V to see the version #.

  1. Press Alpha & S
  2. Enter Alpha & Y to change store number. Enter N to go back to the menu
  3. Enter the store number. (usually 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6)
