Return at the register calculating incorrect tax Register Update

Issue - Incorrect Tax on Returns at the Register

The August 9th update included a fix to correct a bug that was causing taxes to be incorrectly calculated when doing a return at the register. It appears as though this fix is only effective when the return is tied to a previous transaction by scanning the original transaction receipt or manually searching for the transaction receipt. If a return is being completed without a previous transaction tied to the return, the taxes are being calculated incorrectly and the return will not be finalized for the correct amount.  This is causing sales to be out of balance and preventing transactions from flowing properly.

August 9th Release note:

Refund Item Tax

When the “Refund Item” button is pressed, the tax will now toggle negative and positive matching the item. A bug has been addressed where, when a receipt was refunded and then the “Refund Item” button is pressed, the amount would stay negative but the tax amount would move positive.

Workaround

When doing a return, if you do not have a previous transaction tied to the return through a manual search or a receipt lookup, you must manually adjust the tax to the proper negative amount. This can be performed by following the steps below.

If an item is refunded without being tied to a previous transaction and the tax amount does not change to negative, simply run the following steps:

  1. Scan the item for return

  2. Tap the item and select refund

  3. Click the “Edit” Taxes button.

  4. Select “Manual”.

  5. An Item Tax Override screen will display.

  6. Uncheck the “Use Percentage (%) checkbox.

  7. Enter the dollar value of the tax (displayed on the register screen).

  8. Click the “Apply” button.

  9. Click the “Apply” button on the Item Tax Override screen.

  10. The tax amount will now display with the correct negative amount.

Bug Fix

We will be providing a fix to correct this issue.  However, to avoid potential interruptions to business associated with rush, we will not push an automatic register update to all of our customers.  Instead, we will provide a register update package and instructions on how to manually update the register application to correct this issue.

Click here to download PrismPOS Install Package

Update Instructions - Please run the install package on each register that you would like to apply the update.

  1. Close PrismPOS register application

  2. Run the install package PrismPOS Install Package

Please note the .msi installer requires Administrator permissions. If you run into any issues or errors please contact PrismRBS Support at support@prismrbs.com.

If you would like to bypass the register update, you can choose to stay on the existing version, but will just need to manually adjust taxes on any returns that are not tied to a previous transaction. Again, if a return is being completed without a previous transaction tied to the return, the taxes are being calculated incorrectly and the return will not be finalized for the correct amount.  This is causing sales to be out of balance and preventing transactions from flowing properly.
